Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson, Assemblyman Jeffrion Aubry, Joshua Safran and a free screening of Crime After Crime

The DVSJA campaign is once again teaming up with film director Yoav Potash for a free screening of Crime After Crime on Thursday January 19th at 6:30 PM at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Crime After Crime tells the dramatic story of the battle to free Debbie Peagler from prison. Her spirit remains uplifting, despite a harrowing saga of abuse, injustice, and decades of incarceration for her connection to the murder of the man who abused her and forced her into prostitution. Her story takes an unexpected turn when two rookie land-use attorneys attempt to set her free.

Following the screening, Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson and Assemblyman Jeffrion Aubry, will speak about the legislation. Then, there will be a thought-provoking panel discussion with Joshua Safran, one of Debbie’s attorneys, and NY advocates who will speak about the intersection of abuse and women’s incarceration. DVSJA advocates will be on hand if you would like to join the campaign.

In case you have yet to see this amazing film, you still have one more chance to view the film with an inspiring group of speakers and join the DVSJA campaign. The film will be showing with free admission(compliments of the New York Women’s Foundation) next Thursday, January 19th, at John Jay College located at 445 West 59th Street in Room 2200.
