STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Domestic violence is the most prevalent crime on Staten Island, authorities say. Last night, to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month, elected officials and others participated in a panel discussion about how best to protect vulnerable residents.
The setting was the Staten Island Museum in St. George.
Yolanda Rudich, chief of the district attorney’s Sex Crimes/Special Victims Unit, served as moderator; the panel comprised state Sen. Diane Savino; City Councilwoman Debi Rose; Jaya Vasandani, associate director of The Women in Prison Project of the Correctional Association of New York, and Laura Sword, counsel to Assemblyman Matthew Titone.
