Conference Calls on Republican Majority to Bring Domestic Violence Legislative Package to a Vote Immediately

(Albany, NY) The Senate Democratic Conference today held a public forum on the need to provide additional protections for those affected by domestic violence. The forum was convened to highlight legislation sponsored by members of the Democratic Conference which the Senate Republican Majority has refused to move out of committee and bring to the floor for a vote. Watch Kim Dadou, Tamar Kraft-Stolar and Kathryn Williams testify at the Women’s Forum on Domestic Violence

On May 30th, advocates from the Coalition for Women Prisoners testified at the Forum on Domestic Violence. Watch the videos below as Kim Dadou and Lady Kathryn Williams, both domestic violence survivors and advocates, share their stories to express the urgency for the Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act. Tamar Kraft-Stoler, director of the Correction Association of New York’s Women In Prison Project, testified to the inadequate laws pertaining to domestic violence survivors, outlined the ways in which the DVSJA returns sentencing discretion for domestic violence survivors to judges, and addressed misconceptions about the bill.
