With over 140 people in attendance, the Coalition’s DV Survivors Justice Act Advocacy Day on June 7th was a fantastic success. A big thank you to all Coalition members who put in such hard work organizing the event!
The day started off with a press conference where Coalition members spoke about their experiences as formerly incarcerated domestic violence survivors and were joined by bill sponsors Assemblymember Jeffrion Aubry and Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson, Women In Prison Project staff and other Coalition leaders.
Afterwards, participants congregated in Hearing Room C to receive a warm and inspiring welcome from Assemblymember Aubry and Coalition members. Then, 23 lobby teams met with 69 legislators and distributed the CWP DV Survivors Justice Act support memo, the list of organizations who support the bill, and the CWP’s Strength of a Woman film .
Watch clips below of survivor Kim Dadou speak about her experiences at a press conference, DVSJA Assemblyman Jeffrion Aubry give an electrifying speech to advocates, and Sharon Richardson, Stacey Thompson, and Jacqueline Velez share inspirational words.
